From the Curators:
"The palmettes on the base of these gloves are taken from the arts of ancient Greece, where they ornamented the finest architecture, paintings, pottery, metalware, and jewelry. Here, transplanted on to gloves, the elegant palmettes serve as a cuff, drawing attention to the hand and arm and mimicking palmettes on ancient columns or armbands."
—Alexandra Alevizatos Kirtley, The Montgomery-Garvan Curator of American Decorative Arts
Soft and indulgent, these hand-printed velvet gloves were designed specially for the Museum. Brimming with Old World charm, each glove features an elegant metallic palmette motif along the cuff.
