Enamel Pin Distelfink Pennsylvania German by Thistle Finch Designs
Wear this Hex enamel pins to scare away witches, demons and thieves! Hex signs are a form of Pennsylvania German folk art, related to Fraktur, found in the Fancy German tradition in Pennsylvania German Country. Barn paintings, usually in the form of "stars in circles", began to appear on the landscape in the early 19th century and became widespread decades later when commercial ready-mixed paint became readily available. Hex designs often include stars, compass roses, stylized birds known as distelfinks, hearts, tulips, or a tree of life.
Millie, the maker behind Thistle Finch Designs, creates one-of-a-kind pieces—inspired by traditional fraktur, but with an unexpected twist. Each design incorporates the classic imagery and symbolism of Pennsylvania folk art while playfully paying tribute to the region the artist calls home.
