Description
This richly illustrated guidebook traces the 250 years of creativity that is celebrated in the landmark exhibition A Nation of Artists. It opens with a timeline of art in Philadelphia, marking the great achievements around 50-year intervals and culminating with 2026. Each of the three participants—the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA), the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), and the private collectors John and Leigh Middleton—recount their collecting journeys in three separate essays. The text closes with summaries of the six themes that are addressed in the two exhibition venues—chronologically at the PMA and thematic juxtapositions at PAFA.
