Our Philadelphia Art Museum exclusive tea towel, created for us by Pretty Flours, features a vibrant bouquet of sunflowers inspired by our own Vincent van Gogh Sunflowers, 1888 or 1889.
Each Sunflower and stem is added one block at a time to premium, organic, flour sack cotton towels. Generously sized and luxuriously absorbent, these tea towels are perfect for kitchen or bathroom use. Each is a unique and functional work of art, inspired by the forest and designed by Molly Thompson. Molly has always appreciated functional objects representative of good design. Each of her hand-printed textiles is unique – individually printed, one at a time, using a process that begins with carving her drawings onto a pliable rubber surface, then mounted on wood to create a stamp. Once she finalizes her design, she hand-paints and prints the stamp again and again to create impressions that mirror gardens, both real and imagined.
Creating beautiful things and caring for the natural world is important to Molly. The fabrics she prints on are made of natural fibers, and the paints are food-safe and heat-set to withstand rigorous use and repeated washing. She packages and ships her goods in materials that have a minimal impact on our planet.
