Description
For Lancaster-based artist Emily Deakin, working with clay is a perfect fit. Her designs tell just enough of where they come from but still holding a story of their own. They start as a blank canvas- a raw piece of clay in her hands. It’s brought to life and transformed into something that will last forever. Metal clay is made from very fine particles of recycled metal suspended in an organic binder. It begins as a powder, mixed into clay and free formed into Emily's designs. Once dried it is sanded and burnished then fired in her kiln. The organic binder burns away leaving solid bronze. Emily then goes on to finish the jewelry with various sanding and polishing techniques.
