Our charming wool felt polar bear made for us by The Winding Road is inspired by Charles Sidney Raleigh's, Chilly Observation which features a polar bear eagerly waiting, with open mouth, for the whaling boats seen in the distance to throw a whale's carcass back into the sea. This beautiful painting is featured in the A Nation of All Artist's exhibition.
The Winding Road works with artisans in developing countries to help improve their standard of living by providing a fair wage and a safe workplace. They have been working with their felt supplier in Nepal since 2012, a couple in their early 20's who had moved to Kathmandu from their village to create a better life. Winding Road brought their felt goods to the US, and now have them in hundreds of stores, and employ 75+ women artisans. Part of Winding Road's profits go toward paying full school tuition for their artisans' children.
