Description
Among Cassatt’ surviving pastel boxes are two flat wooden containers that have labels reading “Pastels a l’ecu”, a brand name of the Parisian colormaker Sennelier, founded in 1887. Gustave Sennelier, a devoted chemist, researched the history and usage of pigments to develop a distinctive process for manufacturing colors. Since that time artists regard the Sennelier palette as the ultimate standard of quality in oils, watercolors and pastels.
High-quality pure pigments are combined with a natural transparent binder to create these balanced pastels. Available only in white and ivory black, Sennelier Giant Soft Pastels are easy to handle and ideal for covering large areas. Each pastel stick measures approximately 4" x 1.5", about the size of eight full stick pastels each.
