Description
The Slinky was invented by accident in 1943 by naval engineer Richard T. James who was working to create a tension spring for stabilizing instruments on naval warships. While experimenting, one of his prototypes fell to the floor and began "walking" across the surface. James's wife, Betty, suggested the name "Slinky" based on the toy's sinuous movement and sound. The first Slinkys were sold in 1945 and became an instant hit.
For over 3 generations Slinky has captivated children and adults all over the world with its soothing sounds and movements.
