Description
In 1972 the well-known Philadelphia sculptor Leonard Baskin created this handsome sterling silver medal depicting the illustrious American artist Thomas Eakins, whom Baskin greatly admired. Commissioned by the Thomas Eakins Foundation issued by the Franklin Mint, the medal commemorated the then almost-completed restoration of Eakins’ house at 1729 Mount Vernon Street, a project initiated in 1969 to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Eakins’ birth.
