Poplar trees in full flower inspired this 1888 Monet painting. Sparkling in the sunlight, the scene along the Epte River is fleeting and natural. The muted colors contribute to the peacefulness of the scene in the very essence of impressionism. From 1883, Monet lived in Giverny, where he purchased a house and began a vast landscaping project which included lily ponds. in addition to the water lilies, Monet painted the trees along the bank of the Epte River in capturing the changes of light and seasons.
