Alexander Girard's whimsical designs could be seen on everything from textiles to airplane interiors in the post war era. On his extensive travels, Girard avidly collected textiles and folk art from all over the world. He bequeathed a major portion of these objects to the Vitra Design Museum in 1993, together with the contents of his studio, which encompassed hundreds of drawings, prototypes and samples. These brass-effect ornaments are derived from icons used in Girard's work in 1965, and were selected exclusively by Vitra along with the designer's estate.
