Stettheimer took as her subject the people and the city of New York. Her high society friends, experiences and venues received her observant and biting humor to the delight of her continuing fans. Stettheimer's theatrical interests are also evident as the painting appears to be almost a mini scene with many of the actors clearly recognizable to her audience.
